How to Judge the Quality and Purity of Wool Fabrics
- Feel: High-quality wool fabrics have a smooth and delicate feel. Pure wool fabrics exhibit good elasticity and return to their original shape quickly after being gently pinched.
- Color Observation: The color of pure wool fabrics is natural and soft, lacking a dull appearance. Compared to blended fabrics, pure wool fabrics have richer and brighter colors.
- Elasticity Test: Pinch the fabric with your fingers and then release it. Pure wool fabric will quickly return to its original shape with minimal wrinkling.
- Burning Method: Burning pure wool fibers produces an odor similar to burning hair, with a natural aroma. The ashes after burning pure wool are powdery and can be easily crushed with your fingers.
- Static Electricity Inspection: Rub the wool fabric with a piece of pure cotton cloth for about 5 minutes and then quickly separate them. If there is no “pop” sound indicating static electricity, it is likely to be pure wool. If there is a noticeable static sound or even sparks, it may contain synthetic fiber components.
- Touch: Wool fabric is softer and more elastic than other fabrics and does not wrinkle easily. Due to the close arrangement of wool fibers and scales, garments made from wool tend to have a slightly thicker appearance.
- Texture Clarity: High-quality wool threads have a clear texture without messy fluff. High-quality wool fabric exhibits a good luster and vibrant color without dullness.
- Tensile Test: Gently stretch a wool thread. If it has moderate elasticity, is not easy to break, and the nap is slightly curled, it indicates good quality. High-quality wool threads have a consistent thickness.
