Oct 16, 2024

Knitted single-sided fabric and knitted double-sided fabric are two common knitted fabrics. According to different weaving methods, they can be divided into double-sided knitted and single-sided knitted. They differ significantly in structure, feel and purpose.

1. Appearance and dThickness

  • Single-knit fabric: The front and back are noticeably different, So it suitable for designs where only one side of the fabric is meant to be shown. Single-knit fabric is thin with good stretch, especially in the horizontal direction. It offers better breathability but provides less warmth.
  • Double-knit fabric: Both sides look almost the same. So it great for reversible clothing or designs where both sides are visible. Double-knit fabric is thicker and more structured, with less stretch compared to single-knit. Providing better warmth, making it suitable for colder weather.https://www.ultratextile.cn/product/48polyester-46rayon-6spandex-soft-interlock/

2. Structure and Knitting Method

  • Single-knit fabric: This fabric only one side has a visible knit texture. And the other side has a different texture (the back side). The two sides are not identical, with one side usually being smooth and the other having small loops.
  • Double-knit fabric: This fabric both sides have the same or very similar knit texture. This structure makes the front and back of the fabric look and feel almost identical, and it’s generally thicker than single-knit fabric.

3. Feel and Comfort

  • Single-knit fabric: It feels lightweight and soft, making it great for close-fitting clothing, offering good comfort. As it’s a single layer, it can stretch out of shape over time, especially after extended wear or washing.
  • Double-knit fabric: The double-layer construction makes it less prone to stretching and more durable. It has a thicker and more supportive feel, making it ideal for garments that need more warmth or firmness.

4. Usage

  • Single-knit fabric: Due to its light weight and breathability, it is commonly used to make summer clothing, such as T-shirts, undergarments, and lightweight sportswear.
  • Double-knit fabric: Thanks to its thickness and insulation properties, double-knit fabric is often used to make winter coats, sweatshirts, sweaters, and other thicker garments.

Depending on the specific use and season, you can choose between single-knit or double-knit fabric to meet your needs.
