Fabric brushing types and processes

Brushing is a process in the textile industry. The cloth is rubbed by a brushing machine and emery leather. In order to form a layer of short velvet on the surface of the fabric. It not only retains the original characteristics. And gives the fabric a new style, increasing warmth and softness, rich texture, and long-lasting color. It is suitable for winter warmth products and products used close to the body.

Types of Brushed Fabrics

  1. Ordinary Brushed: This is the most common type of sanding. Through the friction between the sanding machine and the high-mesh diamond leather. A layer of short fluff is formed on the surface of the fabric, which increases the warmth and softness of the fabric.
  2. Water Brushed: This method makes fibers stand up, resulting in a thicker, fluffier texture. It often used for winter clothing and outerwear.
  3. Silicon carbide Brushed: This type of brushing uses a silicon carbide brush to brush the fabric. And is suitable for a variety of fiber materials.
  4. Sand leather Brushed: Use sandpaper roller to sand the fabric. Common ones include all-polyester velvet, peach skin velvet and all-cotton Italian velvet.
  5. Steel licker-in‌ Brushed: Use steel licker-in rollers to rub the fabric, suitable for materials such as Lycra velvet‌.

Brushing Techniques

  1. Mechanical Brushing: Utilizes specialized brushing machines equipped with brushes or rollers to treat the fabric surface.
  2. Heat Treatment: Uses high temperatures to cause fiber shrinkage, raising the fibers and enhancing the fabric’s warmth.
  3. Dry Cleaning Brushing: Incorporates specific brushing agents during the dry cleaning process for dual stain removal and brushing effects.
  4. Fiber Selection: Choosing fibers with higher elasticity and loft, such as polyester or cotton, to improve the brushing outcome.

Different brushing techniques and types can give fabrics varying textures and uses. When choosing, it is recommended to select the appropriate sanding type and process. According to specific needs to ensure that the warmth, softness and skin-friendliness of the fabric meet the use requirements.
